We’re delighted to say we have now planted 500 trees in four different continents as we continue our goals to put trees in the ground from the proceeds of every sale in every corner of the world.
We plant trees every month with our official partners One Tree Planted who do such amazing work to grow awareness for reforestation & allow enthusiasts like ourselves the opportunity to support a sustainable economy whilst reinforcing the habits of the wild, the land condition of the natives and much much more.
October 2020 saw us plant 123 trees in the Amazon Rainforest. Latin America is home to a remarkable variety if wildlife and tree species and supporting reforestation and conservation there was our first stop on our tree planting journey.
In November we ventured over to Asia and put 128 trees in the ground in Indonesia with One Tree Planted. We love the natural wilds of Indonesia and it is home to some of our favourite animals.
In December we sent 132 trees to the Africa. This time to Ethiopia. A landscape of mind blowing beautify and biodiversity. To support this region with our largest total of trees to date was an honour and we couldn’t have done it without you!
With over 123 million hectares of native forests, Australia has the seventh largest forest area in the world, making up three per cent of the Earth’s forests. These forests are unique and varied – ranging from ancient Gondwana rainforest and tropical mangroves to extensive bush lands made up of native acacia, melaleuca and eucalyptus trees. Our January 2021 donation will help to plant trees to recover forests affected by the 2019-20 Black Summer Bushfires and restore native habitat vital for wildlife. And among many reasons more - that is why we are delighted to say we are planting 117 trees in Australia from our sales proceeds in January 2021.
The combination of low precipitation and record high temperatures during Australia’s most recent (2019–20) summer season, resulted in dramatic wildfires across the country that drew global attention. It is estimated that more than 1 billion animals were killed in the fires. For example, some 8,000 koalas may have perished in last year’s bushfires, and the loss of eucalyptus trees and water supply will continue to affect them as recovery slowly starts to take place. About 30% of their key habitat has been destroyed.Â
Australia’s forests need active management in order to improve their health, protect wildlife, and reduce the risk of catastrophic wildfires in the future. One Tree Planted projects work with local landowners and environmental organisations to improve the health of Australian forest and bush lands.
As well as recovering fire-damaged lands, our donations and support for reforestation in Australia will help restore habitat for native species that depend on these environments, such as koalas, echidnas, sugar gliders and other wildlife found nowhere else in the world.
Here’s a few quick look points at why we decided a year on from the peaks of the terrible bushfires that spread across Australia - we decided to plant trees there this month to show our support and give back to the planet.
🌳 Restoring forests also means restoring habitat critical to conserving Australia's unique wildlife. Healthy forest ecosystems support higher biodiversity and are more resilient to the stressors of climate change.
🌳 Reforestation efforts assist native vegetation in growing back, while also improving soil quality, preventing erosion, and controlling invasive species - which can be particularly aggressive after forest fires without intervention.
🌳 REDUCE THE IMPACT OF BUSHFIRES Help us prevent bushfires in Australia from spreading catastrophically. Young, healthy forests can help suppress future wildfires and reduce the impact of smoke on public health and native ecosystems..
Through One Tree Planted we are working with many great partners in Australia to restore the country's native forests following last season’s catastrophic bushfires. Efforts are focused on mobilizing support for replanting efforts, developing nurseries and planting millions of trees with an army of volunteers and professional crews. Though our donations aren’t at those sky high numbers - we’re proud to do our bit!
By planting trees in Australia, we are creating habitat corridors for koalas in New South Wales and Victoria, enhancing biodiversity in Western Australia, and promoting sustainable and regenerative agriculture practices with landowners.
One Tree Planted’s programs and partners choose native trees that will bring the greatest overall benefit to the ecosystem and region. This includes various types of native trees and companion plants. Depending on the specific needs of each section of habitat being restored, native trees may include acacia, banksia, eucalyptus, melaleuca, and many other native species.Â
And that, my friends, is why we chose Australia for this months donations. As always we want to thank each and every one of you who have supported our store this past month.
We have now surpassed planting 500 trees globally. Next stop - 1,000.
Here’s to a healthy and happy February.
